Italian energy company Eni is to develop a 50MW solar farm in Kazakhstan.
The company’s local subsidiary ArmWind won the rights to develop the project, located in the Turkestan region, in an auction managed by the Kazakh authorities.
Eni said the award mark’s its entry in the solar sector of the country.
The project will be completed in the second half of 2021.
It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over the lifetime of the plant, Eni added.
The company is currently building a 48MW wind farm in the country as an extension to the Badamsha 1 project.
